Overview
My research interests are in the broad areas of nonlinear control, adaptive approximation based control,
and applications to machines/drives, and renewable energy technologies (photovoltaics, wind energy systems and storage).
Current Research Projects
- Control for Battery Management Systems
- Hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) for grid integration of renewables
- Hybrid and Nonlinear Control of Power Converters
- Power Optimization and Control for PV and wind energy conversion systems (WECS)
- Distributed Wide-Area Control of Power Systems
Synergistic Activities
- Member of (CUSP)TM, funded jointly by the Office of Naval Research (ONR),Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and the NSF.
- Participant in Distributed Technology Training Consortium (DTTC) led by Electicore Inc., in response to the DOE SunShot Initiative's Grid Engineering for Accelerated Renewable Energy Deployment (GEARED) program.
- Faculty Research Intern - San Diego Gas & Electric, 2010 and 2011 (summer). Worked on PV inverter modeling, PV system reliability, governing standards, utility experiences, and effects of high penetration levels of PV on distribution grids.
